Sometimes I feel like I'm one of the very few people who cares about the plastic problem. While I know that isn't true, I still feel obligated to share tips on how to be more mindful about this global issue. I'm not going to solve the worlds pollution problem but at least I can do my part. I just hope and pray we treat the earth better as time goes on. Here are some tips I've integrated. These are super simple way to get rid of unnecessary waste...
run-off will affect our fish and wild life. 5. Be thoughtful of the fish and seafood you buy. I haven't seen the documentary Seaspiracy but I heard it was insightful as to how the leading cause of ocean pollution is from the fishing industry. Another reason we need good people in the room where they make decisions that impact the world we live in. What else would you add to the list?
Pulling outfits together for family photos is tough, especially when your trying to coordinate multiple families plus grandparents and cousins! We found the floral print maxi dresses the little girls wore and picked outfits for everyone else based off the colors in the floral print. Luckily all the guys had a pair of either shorts or pants in the carmel khaki color, I couldn't find the exact shade for Graham's shorts but he had a pair of shoes that worked perfectly. White and blue were the easiest colors to coordinate with the girls dresses, Kelsey had light pink denim pants and Hudson wore a dusty red shorts that also pulled colors from the girls dresses. I think adding another subtle pattern like a stripe (Kyle's shirt) and the white eyelet dress I wore helps pull the picture together and makes the outfits look less "matchy-matchy" a plaid, gingham or polka dot are other options. Next, we looked at each "family's" outfits to make sure there was a balance of all the colors in each individual family shot. Last, we cuffed the guys button up shirts to make them a little more "casual" since Kyle was wearing a casual crew neck tee. He also wore pants to dress up the tee shirt and my dad and husband wore shorts to make their outfits a little more casual. My only other tips are avoid graphics or words on shirts and keep your shoes in neutral colors so they don't stand out (unless they work with your color scheme)!
Sum it up! 1. Pick a color scheme or print/statement piece 2. Choose accent colors and neutrals for bottoms (as in pants ) 3. Add a few pieces/accessories in pop colors 4. Add a 2nd subtle print/pattern (ex: stripe, plaid, polka dot) 5. Make sure there is a mix of casual/dressy elements or go all dressy or all casual I know you already spend more time than you want on getting ready for taxes so I will get right to the point with these tips. 1. Get the Wave app. I use this app to take photos of invoices. it keeps all my receipts in a neat place for when it comes time for taxes. 2. Get the Mile IQ app. I think it's $5 a year and it saves me from paying $$$$. It's so easy to use and very kind to your wallet. 3. Organize your inbox with labels. The video tutorial explains the importance of staying organized. Trust me, I just incorporated this method and I feel 100x's more productive. 4. Write out your work schedule. Here's a podcast I listened to recently that had the best advice for this. 5. Be a legit business. This seems scary to some of you! You know who you are. Before you bring in any more profit make sure you're doing the right thing. Here's a podcast to help! If you combine these ingredients, you'll have a smooth working business.
It's like a vortex out there! I'm not even sure what that means. I just know at times when I feel the lowest it's probably because my last interaction with a human wasn't the most precious of moments. You know the times when you didn't like how your boss ignored you or your fellow grocery shopper cut you off. It's those times and the times with the inevitable mistakes I make that get me in the depths of despair (aka over-thinking into oblivion). When I'm in the slumps I stop dreaming, the creative flow shuts off and the mind-numbing scrolling begins. How do I get out of this cycle? Enter my favorite people: The friends that have been like family, my husband or the new friend that took time out of her busy schedule to encourage me. It's the real human connection that inspires me. Let me tell you about Emily.
You need people in your life like her! There are good people out there. Dreams go further when you have a sounding board. The statistics are dim if you look at the lifespan of a small business these days. I think the secret is finding good people to learn from and to grow with.
We love our community here. I've met so many professional solopreneurs that have shared with me a deep longing to be connected with other local small business owners that talk outside of the occasional shout out on social media. I have a few close friends who have done that for me. These dear people really make the difference for my business. They push me to reach my goals and encourage the heck out of me. I need people like this and you might need them too. |
